- Huawei & Ericsson have been jointly appointed as vendors for the deployment of the network.
- The network in Uganda will be latest state of the art converged next generation IP network in Uganda. The network is EDGE capable. The network in phase 1 will support 1,500,000 GSM customers at 25mE capacity and 100,000 WiMax customers.
- The network is expected to be commercially launched by December 2007.
- The GSM network will provide a full suite of latest product and service offerings to the customers including Voice, SMS, MMS, VMS, GPRS etc
- Over the next three years Warid has committed to the Government of Uganda that it will increase its network capacity to 4,000,000 GSM customers and 300,000 WiMax customers. It is also committed to deploying a state of art nationwide self healing fiber optic backbone. Total cost of these networks will be in excess of US $ 500 million.
